Laurence ‘Loz’ James, Antigua and Barbuda’s first professional Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighter says he is set and ready for his upcoming fight over the weekend.
The fight was initially slated for November 14th but was pushed back to Sunday 22nd November where James will be taking on Jamie Powers at the Celtic Gladiator event in England in three five minute rounds.
Celtic Gladiator is an Irish Premier MMA Promotion company.
Despite the setback and the ongoing lockdown in the United Kingdom, James whose grandparents Clifford and Dorothy James hail from the Cedar Grove community is confident of his chances.
“I am fully prepared for this fight. There has been no stone left unturned,” said James. “I am really confident i can end this fight in the first round.”
James, 31, hails from Crewe, England and at a young age started in boxing before moving into Thai boxing in 2011. In 2014, he began an amateur career in MMA where he held a record of five wins and two losses and then moved on to kickboxing professionally. After sometime, James decided to return to MMA but in a porfessional sense and currently holds a 2-0 record.
His goal however is to have a successful career in the sport and then retire in Antigua where he plans to open a gym to teach youth the sport.
The event will be held behind closed doors due to the ongoing covid-19 pandemic but will streamed on Pay per view. Interested persons can watch the fight live on eventtv.global2018 as it is slated to begin at 3p.m. local time.
