Lovell disappointed in continued flooding of Friars Hill Road, and stresses need for attention to City East infrastructure

Harold Lovell, Political Leader of the United Progressive Party (UPP), says he is disappointed with the work done by Bahamas Hot Mix (BMH) in reconstructing the Friars Hill Road.

For many years, parts of that road have been prone to flooding, and the roadway experienced similar water retention during this week’s heavy rains – to the surprise of motorists.

According to the authorities, rehabilitation work on the road would have made it impervious to this type of weather, Lovell reminds residents.

Meanwhile, Lovell says that some assessment has been done of the damage sustained in St. John’s City East.  He is the UPP candidate for that constituency and has already toured its communities to determine the impact of the rain and flooding on residents.

He promises that assistance will be sought for villagers severely impacted by the tropical disturbance.

Lovell says that residents of the Upper Fort Road area – especially those who live close to the natural watercourse – had a very difficult time during the heavy rains.

That waterway – which carries water from as far East as Clare Hall to the McKinnons Pond – overflowed, causing flooding of the roads and in some homes.

According to Lovell, the construction of a bridge had been started –  but without the input of residents – and later halted. He says this situation needs to be properly addressed now in light of what the rains have caused.
