Senator Jonathan Wehner has proposed annual grants for youth-focused organisations as a way to help prevent crime.
The proposal centres on supporting organisations that work with young people through community programmes and other constructive activities. Such organisations can provide opportunities for skills development, mentorship and positive engagement.
The proposal also contributes to the wider debate about whether crime prevention should include greater investment in community initiatives alongside law enforcement and the justice system.
