A 21-year-old Bath Plantation man died on Sunday night after he lost control of the car he was driving while negotiating a turn along the No. 6 Public Road, West Coast Berbice.
Dead is Afridi Rahaman of Lot 39 Bath Plantation, West Coast Berbice.
Police said that around 20:00hrs, Rahaman was driving car PAB 8323 west along the southern side of the road when he lost control while negotiating a right turn. The car crossed over to the northern side, toppled several times, and eventually came to rest in a trench.
Rahaman and his 19-year-old passenger, Parveena Brijemal, also of Lot 39 Bath Settlement, were removed from the vehicle by public-spirited citizens.
Rahaman was reportedly unconscious when he was taken to the Bath Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor.
Brijemal, who was conscious at the time, was admitted for observation and is said to be in stable condition.
Police are continuing their investigation into the accident.
