A call for spiritual reflection is echoing across Antigua and Barbuda today as residents observe the National Day of Prayer with activities focused on faith, unity and the direction of the nation.
Churches, broadcasters and designated prayer sites are taking part in the nationwide observance, which encourages residents to spend the public holiday in prayer, fasting and reflection.
This year’s observance is being held under the theme, “From Repentance to Restoration: Rebuilding Trust in the God of Our Nation.”
Rather than being centred on a single event, activities are taking place throughout the day before culminating with a national gathering at the Antigua Recreation Grounds.
That event is scheduled to run from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. and is expected to bring together religious leaders, worshippers and other members of the public.
Organisers have identified four main areas of focus for the day: repentance; mercy and restoration; hope and justice; and thanksgiving and trust.
The observance is intended to provide an opportunity for people across the country to reflect on Antigua and Barbuda’s spiritual, social and national direction while joining in collective prayer.
The National Day of Prayer remains a relatively new addition to Antigua and Barbuda’s calendar, with the designated public holiday setting aside a day specifically for national prayer and reflection.
