A mother’s quick action may have helped shield her young baby from danger after a masked gunman opened fire through the window of their apartment off Friars Hill Road early Tuesday morning.
The 43-year-old woman was shot in the leg during the incident, which reportedly occurred at about 2:45 a.m.
She told investigators that she and her baby were asleep when she was awakened by sounds of someone attempting to enter the apartment.
The intruder, who was reportedly masked and armed with a gun, was unable to gain entry to the home.
He then allegedly fired two shots through a window, with one of the bullets striking the woman in the leg.
Amid the gunfire, the injured mother reportedly managed to push her baby off the bed and out of harm’s way.
The child escaped the ordeal unharmed.
The woman was taken to hospital, where she is receiving treatment for her injury.
Police are now working to identify and locate the gunman and are appealing to members of the public for assistance.
