A taxi driver has been granted bail after appearing in court in connection with an incident involving a police officer that has drawn widespread public attention.
Denicia Martin, of Bethesda, is facing five charges following the March 16 confrontation on Long Street. The charges include disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, failing to comply with a lawful order, and the use of indecent and abusive language.
The matter gained traction after video footage circulated online appearing to show the interaction between Martin and a female police officer.
Martin appeared before Chief Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel, where bail was set at $4,500. The court ordered that $1,000 be paid in cash, with two sureties required to secure her release.
As part of the bail conditions, she must report to the Gray’s Farm Police Station three times weekly—on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays—between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. She has also been instructed to surrender any travel documents in her possession.
The case has been adjourned and is scheduled to return to court on May 20.
