Day Two of Murder Trial | Witness Says Accused Felt “Shortchanged” After Nigel Christian Killing

A witness at the centre of the Nigel Christian murder trial returned to the stand this morning for the continuation of his evidence in chief, telling the court that one of the accused was left angered after receiving what he felt was an inadequate share of the payment for the killing.

The witness testified that Lasean Bully was upset following the murder, saying he did not receive what he deserved financially. According to the witness, Bully received $5,000, Wayne Thomasreceived $5,000, and Saleim Harrigan took the remainder of the payment, a distribution that left Bully aggrieved.

The witness was also shown a photograph in court and asked whether he recognised it. He confirmed that he did, identifying it as the home of Nigel Christian.

The testimony builds on explosive evidence delivered on the first day of the trial, when the witness told the court that the accused had informed him they “got a job from somebody to kill the guy.”

He described driving the three men on the day of July 10, 2020, when Christian was snatched from his McKinnons home. Christian’s body, riddled with gunshot wounds, was found shortly afterward in the Thibou’s area.

He said he dropped them at the deceased’s home of the day of the incident, saw them kidnap him and secretly followed them to Thibou’s where he discovered the deceased’s body.

The witness also said that in the days following the killing, Bully described shooting Christian in the face and upper body, and that Thomas claimed to be in possession of Christian’s firearm.

Lasean Bully of Cashew Hill, Wayne Thomas of Hatton, and Saleim Harrigan of Greenbay all maintain their innocence.

The Crown is represented by Director of Public Prosecutions Clement Joseph and Crown Counsel Curtis Cornelius. The prosecution has listed over 50 witnesses, and the trial is expected to last approximately six weeks.
