Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party senator, Kiz Johnson, and independent senator, Jamilla Kirwan, are to travel to Trinidad and Tobago this week to represent Antigua and Barbuda in a series of activities being convened by ParlAmericas between January 21 and 23.
The discussions will be focused on key areas in support of women’s leadership.
The two senators will attend a meeting of women parliamentarians on “Catalysing Regional Action on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence Against Women in Public Life: Supporting Parliamentary Action.”
This will be held in partnership with the United Nations Population Fund, UNFPA, and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, ECLAC.
The discussions are set to examine concrete areas of collaboration among women parliamentarians to tackle this issue, using their unique positions of influence.
The activities in Trinidad and Tobago will also feature an in-person meeting of the Young Women in Leadership Regional Workshop, being held in partnership with UN Women Caribbean and CIWiL.
ParlAmericas is an institution promoting parliamentary diplomacy in the Inter-American system.
