A resident of St Johnston’s Village is facing extensive surgery after he sustained severe injuries to his hand during a violent confrontation on Tuesday morning.
According to reports, the 38-year-old man was rushed to Sir Lester Bird Medical Centre (SLBMC) following the incident which occurred around 7:30am on the Holberton Hospital compound, where he had reportedly been involved in an altercation with another man from Potters Village.
During the dispute, the victim sustained deep lacerations to multiple fingers on both hands, with medical examinations revealing that tendons in four fingers had been completely severed during the attack, the reports indicate.
“The injuries are serious but not life-threatening,” a medical source confirmed. “However, the patient will require surgical intervention to repair the severed tendons in order to restore proper function to his hands.”
The victim reportedly suffered cuts to three fingers on his left hand and one finger on his right hand. Up to press time he was being held for observation at SLBMC as doctors prepared for the surgical procedures needed to reconnect his fingers.
