A 35-year-old Villa resident sustained injuries after being attacked by two armed men on Hand Street late Monday evening, police have reported.
The incident occurred around 10:30pm on June 24, when the victim was sitting on the street corner and two men, armed with guns and dressed in dark clothing, approached him.
A confrontation ensued when one of the gunmen shoved the victim. The man retaliated with a push-back and he then attempted to flee the scene but he fell in the process, injuring the palm of his hand.
The assailants pounced on the man, as he was on the ground, and proceeded to beat him with their weapons before fleeing the area on foot in a southerly direction.
Residents reported hearing gunshots at the time the incident occurred; however. police have not confirmed whether the shots were fired at the victim.
The victim’s current condition and the extent of his injuries have not been disclosed by authorities.
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or may have information about the attack or the whereabouts of the suspects is asked to contact the police immediately.
