Major repairs to the runway at V.C. Bird International Airport will soon commence, but have been scheduled during nighttime hours to prevent disruption to daytime flight operations.
Cabinet was informed on Wednesday that the comprehensive repaving project is expected to span two years from its commencement date.
“The work will take place at night, however, so that there will be little or no interruption of traffic during daylight hours,” the Cabinet notes stated.
The project will include acquisition of specialized equipment dedicated to the resurfacing operations. This equipment will be stored on-site under specially constructed sheds built to “very high standards,” according to information presented to Cabinet.
No specific start date for the repairs was mentioned in the Cabinet notes.
