APUA officials were called to account for water distribution across Antigua and Barbuda, according to Wednesday’s Cabinet notes.
Cabinet has summoned the management of Antigua Public Utilities Authority (APUA) to account for the provision of water to homes, hotels, government institutions, and other consumers.
During Wednesday’s meeting, it was revealed that Potworks Dam, which previously supplied 900,000 gallons of water daily, is currently not producing any water.
The Cabinet instructed APUA to ensure that Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plants increase production to compensate for the shortfall and meet consumer demand across the island.
To facilitate this increased production, the government provided a cash injection to APUA, specifically earmarked for maintaining an adequate inventory of spare parts to ensure continuous operation of the RO plants.
This intervention comes amid growing concerns about water availability during the dry season, with many households and businesses experiencing irregular supply in recent months.
The Cabinet did not specify the exact amount of the cash injection provided to APUA or establish concrete timelines for improved water distribution.
