Fearless Crew and Phoenix record crucial wins in race for top spots in Division 2 basketball

Fearless Crew recorded a crushing 82-38 victory over United as the battle for top positions continued in the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) Second Division on Tuesday.

Contesting the feature game of a double-header at the JSC basketball complex, Fearless Crew dominated the game from start to finish, outscoring their opponents 12-8 in the opening quarter. The teams were evenly matched at 18-18 in the second quarter before Fearless Crew dominated the third and fourth quarters 24-8 and 28-4 respectively.

Takeem Martin was dominant for Fearless Crew with a game-high of 33 points on 16 of 36 field goal attempts. Martin also grabbed 14 rebounds. Joel Christian contributed to the winning effort with 24 points and 17 rebounds while A’jonte Williamson had 10 points off the bench.

In a losing effort, Manlight Simmons and Neville Chambers both had eight points. Simmons picked up 17 rebounds while Chambers bagged 13 of his own.

In the other clash, Phoenix outscored Da Project 71-65. The teams were evenly matched at 20-20 following the opening quarter but Phoenix dominated the second and third quarters 16-12 and 21-15. Da Project claimed the fourth and final quarter 18-14.

Shalorn Bloodman was the top performer for Phoenix with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Dimetre Leitch contributed off the bench with 15 points and 20 rebounds while Daysher Samuel and Noel Ryan picked up 13 and 11 points respectively.

For Da Project, Nathan Matthew top scored with 22 points while Beniah Mack had 17 points and seven rebounds.
