Defence Force Meets With Barbuda Council on medical evacuations, security and, National Cadet Corps in Barbuda

Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force: Brigadier Benjamin, accompanied by his unit’s Commanding Officers and other senior officers of the ABDF, traveled to Barbuda to meet with the Barbuda Council, reinforcing the ongoing collaboration between the ABDF and the island.

Discussions focused on strengthening maritime security, improving communications for medical evacuations, enhancing community engagement, and expanding the National Cadet Corps in Barbuda.

As part of this commitment, the ABDF is advancing maritime safety through a radar project set to roll out later this year, with completion expected by 2026. This initiative will improve coverage across  Antigua & Barbuda and, in partnership with St. Kitts, enhance security for boaters while aiding in missing persons investigations.

Additionally, the ABDF continues to work closely with the community, promoting the use of proper safety equipment like VHF radios and encouraging vigilance regarding advisories from local authorities.

Medical evacuations from Barbuda remain a priority, with the ABDF’s medic team continuously refining their skills to ensure critical patients receive essential care before and during transporting to Antigua .

Meanwhile, the Antigua & Barbuda National Cadet Corps aims

to strengthen its presence in Barbuda by fostering leadership among youth. Major Samuel Roberts, Commandant of the ABNCC, views young people as the nation’s greatest resource and is committed to developing their potential, empowering them to make a meaningful impact within their communities through being a part of the Cadet Corps.
