Murder Accused Alexta Francis Returns to Court May 29 for Committal Hearing

Alexta Francis, the 26-year-old man charged with murdering former St. Peter MP Asot Michael, appeared in St. John’s Magistrates’ Court for his second hearing since his arrest.

Prosecutors requested an adjournment, citing that the case file remains with investigators. Acting Chief Magistrate Dexter Wason granted the request, setting the committal hearing for May 29.

Defense attorney Leon Symister criticized the delay, pointing out the contrast between Francis’ swift arrest and the slow pace of case preparation. Francis was charged with murder just three days after Michael, 54, was found stabbed to death in his Dry Hill residence on November 5, 2024.

Francis remains in custody as the case progresses.
