China Friendship Contest Encourages Exploration and Cultural Exchange

The China Friendship Contest presents a unique opportunity for participants to explore and learn about China, fostering cultural exchange and friendship.

Among the increasing number of options to visit China is participation in the ‘China-LAC: Close Friendship Obliterates the Distance” contest sponsored by The China Public Diplomacy Association.

Earlier this month (September) the winners of the second “China-LAC: Close Friendship Obliterates the Distance” Short Video Contest received their awards during a ceremony held by the sponsors, in Beijing, China. All the finalists were flown to China for a 3-week, all-expenses-paid experience which included the awards ceremony.

Participants had to submit original short videos of no more than three (3) minutes focused on the achievements of cooperation and exchanges between China and LAC countries. The submission period ran from June 1 to August 1 2024 and was open to citizens and residents of all Latin America and Caribbean countries with whom China has relations, including  Antigua and Barbuda.

Finalists included representatives from the Bahamas, Guyana, and Jamaica who also found themselves among dozens in the winners’ circle. Two of the winners from the Caribbean Guyanese Shaquawn Gill and Bahamian Ashad Bain shared their perspectives on the value of the contest. Gill indicated that his participation was motivated by the desire to share the positives of his previous trip to China and to celebrate the invaluable contribution of China to the Caribbean. Bain was satisfied that his abilities as a content creator in the Caribbean were taking him around the world and expressed his delight that he could reinforce the value of the relationship between China and the Caribbean. Zanaba Hudson the Jamaican awardee is a content creator domiciled in the United States.

For Antiguans and Barbudans, details of the contest were circulated on the official Facebook and Twitter pages of the Chinese Embassy in Antigua and Barbuda. Content creators, media professionals, and others in Antigua and Barbuda and the diaspora can take advantage of the opportunity once the contest is held in the future.
