Officials Appeal to Patrons to Attend AI Conference

As the final countdown is underway for the University of the West Indies Five Islands campus second annual Artificial Intelligence Conference, top officials are continuing to push the importance of such a conference as it can aid in improving various facets of Caribbean society.

Groundbreaking discussions on AI in healthcare, will take center stage at the conference.

As UWI Five Islands’ Director of Academic Affairs Dr. Curtis Charles emphasized, this will be one of the most impactful panels of the event. Under the theme AI for Sustainable Caribbean Healthcare, experts will explore how AI is already reshaping medical services in the region.

The healthcare panel will be moderated by Dr. George Mansour and feature a distinguished lineup of speakers to include Dr. Michael Lee, Assistant Professor at Harvard University and Chief Data Scientist at the Waffle Lab.

His work is particularly relevant, as it focuses on the intersection of AI and healthcare in regions like the Caribbean — ensuring localized solutions, not one-size-fits-all models borrowed from North America.

Together, this team of regional and international experts will outline practical, data-driven pathways to a healthier, more resilient Caribbean population.

Dr. Charles continued to appeal to the public to sign up and attend the various days as there will be a wide array of topics that will cover any and all the interests of persons.

With over 300 delegates already confirmed, the conference has attracted wide support from government agencies, banks, statutory boards, and private enterprises.

Importantly, accessibility and education are central to the event.

On June 22nd, a special free workshop will be held for teachers and public servants starting at 1:00 PM. The focus: demystifying AI in the classroom and public service.

This initiative aims to break down barriers and make AI accessible, relevant, and actionable for every citizen.

That evening, a formal reception will be held at Hodges Bay at 6:30 PM, setting the tone for the full conference days on June 23rd and 24th.
