Antigua and Barbudaโs sprint queen, Joella Lloyd, bowed out of the Womenโs 100 meters event at the ongoing NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association) Outdoor Championships being held in Eugene, Oregon, USA when, on Thursday, she clocked 11.43 seconds in the semifinals.
Lloyd, representing Florida State, ran in lane four of semifinals number three, finishing eight in the race. Jameesia Ford of South Carolina, won the race in a time of 10.87 seconds with Dajaz Defrand of USC finishing second in a time of 10.93 seconds. Brianna Shelby, also of USC, finished third in a time of 11.01 seconds.
Earlier this month, Lloyd set a new national record in the 100 meters, clocking a time of 11.01 seconds in the preliminary round of the NCAA championships. The performance bettered the previous national record of 11.06 seconds also set by Lloyd in 2024.
Lloyd holds multiple national records across indoor and outdoor events. Her indoor collection includes the 60m (7.13) and 200m (23.38) while outdoors, she owns both the 100m and 200m marks.
