Guyana, Russia celebrate strong ties on Russia Day 2025

Prime Minister Mark Phillips reaffirmed Guyana’s longstanding and respectful partnership with the Russian Federation during a Russia Day 2025 reception hosted by Ambassador Alexander Kurmaz.

In his address, the Prime Minister praised over 50 years of diplomatic ties, grounded in mutual respect, and acknowledged Russia’s contributions to education and capacity building in Guyana. He also highlighted ongoing collaborations in mining, trade, and culture, with potential for growth in key areas like investment, agriculture, energy, and environmental management.

Prime Minister Phillips emphasized Guyana’s current role as President of the UN Security Council, outlining priorities such as child protection in armed conflict and promoting global peace. He announced a High-Level Open Debate on June 19 on poverty, underdevelopment, and conflict.

He concluded with a strong message: “Guyana stands ready to deepen our partnership with the Russian Federation across multiple sectors in the spirit of mutual respect and shared progress.”
