People’s National Movement (PNM) Chairman Dr Nyan Gadsby-Dolly wants to know who is leading the country as she called on Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar to account for her lengthy absence from the public eye.
In a Facebook post, Gadsby-Dolly demanded transparency over the issue noting citizens have a right to know about the health and fitness of their head of government.
“The citizens deserve to understand why she has not been seen since Saturday May 3rd. Is she really working from home? Why can’t we see a picture or video or her at work? Why is the national outcry about such a fundamental issue being ignored? Is this the type of leadership we can expect going forward? Where reasonable requests are ignored and distractions offered as explanations? We demand answers- Where is Kamla Persad-Bissessar? Who is leading Trinidad and Tobago,” the former education minister commented.
Gadsby-Dolly maintained that a Prime Minister’s health is a public concern, noting that former Prime Minister Dr. Keith Rowley routinely spoke about his medical status whenever questions arose.
We demand the same of the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar,” Gadsby-Dolly said.
Persad-Bissessar is currently working from her private residence in Philippine, San Fernando.
According to Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Barry Padarath, the decision was made due to mould and flooding problems at Whitehall, the official Prime Minister’s office in Port of Spain.
