Thunder’s Kofi James, Micah McKenzie Top Batsman and Bowler for Inaugural West Indies Breakout League

The Leeward Islands Thunder pair Kofi James and Micah McKenziefinished at the top of the respective leading run scorers and wicket takers lists at the end of the inaugural season of the West Indies Breakout League.

The season concluded on Saturday when the Trinidad & Tobago Legions defeated the Thunder by 17 runs in the final at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

The Legions batted first in that final and posted 181-5 from their 20 overs before restricting the Thunder to 164-9 in reply.

McKenzie’s two wickets during the Legions’ innings took his tally up to 12 for the season, two more than Jediah Blades of the Guyana Rainforest Rangers, Navin Bidaisee of the Legions and Thunder teammate Anderson Mahase, while Ryan John of the Windward Islands Infernos rounded out the top five with nine.

James continued his fine form with the bat this season with a 36-ball 63, taking his tally this season up to 240.

The Rainforest Rangers’ Kevlon Anderson (227), the Infernos’ Johann Jeremiah (203), Legions skipper Joshua Da Silva (161) and Infernos skipper Alick Athanaze (160) rounded out the top five.

James also hit the most sixes with 16 with Jeremiah (11) and the Barbados Pelicans’ Shaqkere Parris (10) being the only other players to get double figures, with Athanaze and Da Silva falling just short with nine each.

No player managed to score a hundred during the season with Jeremiah coming closest with 97.

The Thunder’s Nathan Edward was the only bowler to record a five-wicket haul with 5-27. (www.sportsmax.tv)
