Police are investigating reports of a robbery that occurred at Point Wharf Thursday morning when a masked man confronted Barbudan Senator Fabian Jones shortly after he arrived from Barbuda.
The Royal Police Force of Antigua and Barbuda confirmed the incident took place around 8:35 a.m. on Thursday, May 1.
Senator Jones told Observer that he was retrieving his belongings from a vehicle when the incident occurred.
“I came off the boat to rest my bags inside the vehicle and that’s when I saw a black vehicle pull up,” Senator Jones told Observer media.
Senator Jones reported that he initially thought the person approaching was a friend before realizing it was someone wearing a ski mask who demanded he hand over his stuff.
According to Senator Jones, he began to ask the assailant “what was wrong with him”.
“Then he hit me,” Jones stated, describing the confrontation that followed, leading to the assailant firing his weapon hitting the vehicle and the senator’s bag.
Police reported that an unknown armed assailant dressed in dark clothing robbed Senator Jones of an undisclosed sum of money shortly after he disembarked a vessel from Barbuda.
The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a black Honda CRV, according to the police report.
