Police seize drugs found in sofa, investigations underway

A significant drug seizure occurred when law enforcement officers discovered a substantial quantity of cannabis concealed within a sofa.

During a joint drug operation conducted at the Deep Water Harbour on last Thursday, police and Customs officials seized a grey sofa, and upon inspection, they found 30 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis hidden inside.

According to a police press release, the packages weighed a total of 30 pounds and are estimated to have a street value of $180,000. The sofa and the controlled substance have been taken to Police Headquarters for further investigation.

Authorities noted that this recent seizure follows a similar joint operation at the V.C. Bird International Airport Cargo Shed on Tuesday, May 20th. In that instance, 23 vacuum-sealed packages of cannabis, weighing 23 pounds and with an estimated value of $138,000, were confiscated. This incident is also under investigation.

Police have confirmed that, so far, no arrests have been made in either instance.

Both entities have affirmed their dedication to combating illegal drug trafficking and strengthening national border security measures.

Anyone with information relevant to these investigations should contact the Narcotics Department at 462-5150 or to call Crimestoppers at 800-TIPS (8477).
