Division One of the Antigua and Barbuda Amateur Volleyball Association provided a night of intense action on Wednesday evening, as volleyball fans were treated to great match-ups at the YMCA Sports Complex. Both Men’s and Women’s matches stretched to five thrilling sets in a showcase of determination of all the teams on display.
In the first match of the evening, Paragons battled Jets in a back-and-forth Women’s Division in a see-saw contest that saw Paragons take the opening set confidently, but Jets responded with fire. After trading sets all the way to the fifth, Paragons dug deep to edge out Jets in a 3-2 victory with the final set score being 25-19, 18-25, 25-20, 21-25 and 15-12.
What was expected to be a dominant performance by Storming Lions turned into a near-upset by Invaders. With their star hitter absent, the Lions struggled early, dropping the first two sets. But in a fiery comeback that ignited the packed stands, Storming Lions clawed their way back to take the next three sets and the match in dramatic fashion.
The match lasted two hours and 20 minutes with the scores reading 27-25, 27-25,19-25, 14-25 and 12-15.
