Eight years after her son mysteriously disappeared during a short vacation to Antigua, Marina Bezborodova remains desperate for answers, making yet another emotional appeal to the public for information about her son, Roman Mussabekov.
Mussabekov, a Kazakhstan-Canadian, arrived in Antigua on May 16, 2017, for what was planned as a five-day visit. He was staying at a resort in Hodges Bay and reportedly hired a taxi to take him English Harbour. Since that day, the man who was then 29 years old has not been seen or heard from, despite being scheduled to leave the country on May 21, 2017.
“After eight years without any news, I again appealed to my dear people of Yacht Club Marina area, to all yachtsmen, to all ship captains and crew, to all sailors of shops, boutiques and restaurants, to all real estate brokers and to all people from all over Antigua and Barbuda,” Bezborodova said in her emotional plea.
The heartbroken mother continues to hold out hope that someone might have information that could help solve the mystery of her son’s disappearance.
“My dear Antigua friends, help me figure out what could have happened to my son,” she implored.
She described Roman as being 1 meter 78 centimetres (approximately 5 ft 10 inches) tall, with brown hair and blue eyes.
Bezborodova specifically asked locals to try to recall the events of May 16, 2017, in hopes that someone might remember seeing her son.
“Please, try to restore the date 16th May 2017 in your memory. For me, for his mother whose heart is broken,” she said.
The search for Roman has been complicated from the beginning. His family couldn’t get any information about his whereabouts for nine months after his disappearance, only learning through Interpol that he had been in Antigua.
“We live in despair but with the hope to find some answers with your kind help,” Bezborodova said.
The family has posted photos of Roman on Facebook and continues to seek any information that could help locate him or provide details about what happened during his visit to Antigua.
