Locker sets new National 200m Junior record with sub-23 time

La’nica Locker broke another of Joella Lloyd‘s national records when she clocked 22.99 seconds for third place in the 200m finals at the 2025 NJCAA Outdoor Championships.

The Hinds Community College sophomore became the first Antiguan junior and second female overall to break the 23-second barrier, improving significantly from her qualifying time of 23.26 that made her the top-ranked athlete entering the finals.

Locker, who earlier this season won the NJCAA Indoor 200m title, continues her assault on Lloyd’s record books while establishing herself as one of the Caribbean’s premier sprint prospects.

The performance sets up an intriguing showdown at the upcoming ABAA National Championships, where Locker will face national senior record holder Lloyd, defending 200m champion Geolyna Dowdye, and rising star Tyra Fenton, the Carifta 2025 U17 girls 200m bronze medallist.
