This past Friday, the quiet village of John Hughes became a hub of meaningful service and sustainability as six volunteers from Expedia Group joined hands with Good Humans 268 during the CHATS Marketplace to support a dynamic community event focused on environmental education and inclusion.
The team from Expedia Group came energized and ready to work, and their impact was felt immediately. As part of their visit, the volunteers played a crucial role in the operation of the Recycling Expo, an interactive, educational space first established to coincide with the Commonwealth King’s Baton Relay in Antigua and Barbuda.
Originally planned as a one-day feature, the success of the Expo – and the excitement it sparked – led to the decision to extend its run. Now open to the public for a modest entrance fee of $10, the Recycling Expo is more than a temporary display. It’s become a lifeline of learning – offering real-world insights into how plastics, glass, and cans can be responsibly managed in homes, schools, and businesses.
“We’re so grateful to Expedia Group for stepping in with such enthusiasm and kindness,” said Joshuanette Francis, founder of Good Humans 268.
What makes this expo stand out isn’t just the information; it’s the intention behind it. With a firm commitment to inclusion, the Good Humans 268 team has ensured that the expo is fully accessible to individuals with disabilities, in keeping with the organization’s broader mission of equity and representation.
“Disability inclusion and environmental sustainability are not separate issues; they’re part of the same fight for a better, more just world,” said Francis.
The presence of the Expedia Group volunteers also shines a light on the growing network of international partnerships supporting the island’s sustainability movement. These collaborations help amplify local efforts, offering visibility and vital resources to grassroots initiatives.
Visitors are encouraged to stop by and be part of this growing wave of awareness. For a nominal fee, you get access to a powerful, inclusive learning experience and the chance to support local and global efforts for a cleaner, greener Antigua and Barbuda.
As the Recycling Expo continues into the coming weeks, the message is clear: everyone has a role to play and everyone is invited.
