BVI: Popular businessman fatally shot in broad daylight

The Royal Virgin Islands Police Force (RVIPF) has confirmed that the victim in Saturday’s fatal shooting in the West End is 32-year-old Nyron Erickson, said to be a popular businessman of West End, Tortola.

According to preliminary reports, the shooting occurred shortly after 3:00pm on May 10. Erickson was reportedly riding a scooter when unknown assailants opened fire, discharging multiple rapid gunshots in his direction and fatally wounding him.

Officers responded to the scene and secured the area. The matter is now under active investigation.

Acting Deputy Commissioner of Police Kenrick Davis voiced concern about the use of violence to settle disputes, emphasizing the broader impact such incidents have on the community.

“Every life lost to gun violence is one too many. With each incident of this kind, the immediate family members suffer immense loss and grief, but the entire community also suffers from the resultant vicarious trauma,” he said.

“This trauma is manifested in many ways, including a shared fear of crime, which negatively impacts the quality of life. We are doing everything we can to solve this instant crime, but there has to be an all-hands-on-deck approach to mitigate gun violence in the Territory,” he added urging the community to come forward with any information, “no matter how small”, that may assist in identifying and bringing those responsible to justice.
