Reigning national champion, Bernard “King Premier” Willock, emerged winner of the Antigua and Barbuda Draughts Association (ABDA) Invitational Draughts Tournament held at the Gray’s Green Community Center Basketball Complex on Sunday.
Willock strategized his way to the championship trophy by defeating another veteran player in Anthony “Tony” Gomes by a 5-2 margin in the final.
Elvis Cordice secured a third place finish in the one-day tournament with a 6-0 win over Amakusa Jeremiah.
In the semifinals, Willock and Jeremiah saw their two encounters end in draws but Willock clinched the game in sudden death. Gomes beat Cordice 3-0 in the other semifinals.
Eustace “Zocio” Samuel was named the tournament’s most improved player.
