Sea View Farm and Police dominate opening round of Parish League

The opening weekend of the ACB Caribbean Parish League Dave Joseph 30 Overs Competition saw intense action over the weekend with the return of the Police Sports Club. They were able to maintain a clean sheet along Sea View Farm as they both picked up wins against their opponents.

On Saturday, Police secured a comfortable 65-run victory over Freetown in their Dave Joseph Ltd. Overs match. Batting first, Police posted 122 for eight from their 24 overs, with James Cornelius (34) and Damon Valentine (23) making significant contributions. Dean Williams was the best bowler on show for Freetown, claiming four for 24.

In reply, Freetown crumbled to just 57 all out. Wayne Williams (16) was the only batsman to show resistance as Police’s bowlers dominated the proceedings. Treverson Atley led the attack with exceptional figures of four for 28, while Cornelius delivered a remarkable spell, taking 2 wickets without conceding a run.

In a rain-affected match reduced to 22 overs, Urlings defeated the PIC Insurance Blackhawks by 13 runs. Put in to bat, Urlings posted 122 for nine, anchored by Elroy Francis Sr. (37) and Marian Benjamin (22). The Blackhawks’ bowling was led by Ian Gore(4/11) and C Joseph (4/9).

The Blackhawks’ chase fell short as they were dismissed for 109. Despite Gore’s fighting 60 and Malik Batchelor‘s 29, Elroy Francis Sr. completed an excellent all-round performance with 4/24, supported by Jamal Willock (2/6).

At Sea View Farm, the home side registered a commanding eight wicket victory over Mahico Cricket Club. Bowling first, Sea View Farm dismissed Mahico for just 87, with Xavier Freeland (3/12) and Stefan Matthew (3/13) doing the bulk of the damage, while Jayden Charles (22) was MCC’s top scorer.

The chase was straightforward as Freeland continued his fine all-round performance with an unbeaten 39, guiding Sea View Farm to 88 for two and a comprehensive win.

On Sunday, Sea View Farm secured their second win of the weekend by defeating the Black Hawks by four wickets. The Blackhawks were restricted to 99 all out, with Shamar Pereira (31) and Wendell Batchelor (22) providing the only resistance. The bowling honors were shared by Matthew, Freeland, and Alfred Jarvis, who each claimed two wickets.

In response, Sea View Farm reached 101 for six, led by Gershum Phillip (24) and Tazan Watson (18), while Gore took two for 12 in a losing cause.

Police travelled to Urling and continued their winning form with a comprehensive 81-run victory over the homeside. Batting first, Police amassed 197 for six, with Vincent Shadrach(40) and Gary Duberry (35) making valuable contributions.

Urlings could only manage 116/8 in their chase, with Frankie Francis (30), Frederick Floyd(19), and Francis Sr. (18) failing to convert starts. Cornelius took three for 34, and Orandel Boston claimed two for three for Police.

In the weekend’s closest contest was contested at Clare Hall Playing Field which saw Mahico defeat Freetown by virtue of a faster run rate. Mahico posted 175 for eight from 29 overs, with Mike France’s impressive 69 and Jayden Charles’ 44 setting up a competitive total. Jarel Phillip took 2/32 for Freetown.

Freetown’s response reached 160/5 from 27 overs when play concluded, with Cleton Payne (54) and Phillip (30) leading the chase. Samuel Peters (2/30) and Dion Samuel (2/5) were the most successful bowlers for Mahico.
