Police hold 4 after Valsayn home invasion

Police successfully apprehended four men who carried out a home invasion at Real Spring, Valsayn yesterday, and robbed a resident of cash and valuables before leaving in a waiting car which they later abandoned after the neighbourhood watch group raised an alarm.

Police said the incident which occurred around noon sent shockwaves through the area as frightened residents rushed to message and call one another after the suspects entered the property as the homeowner slept.

After entering the house, the suspects forced the victim to hand over a quantity of valuables and cash before they left in a waiting car.

As the driver sped off in the white Toyota Axio Sedan, residents alerted the police as they attempted to thwart the getaway.

Their efforts were not in vain and forced the suspects to abandon their car along Harold Fraser Circular.

The men allegedly ran into the bushy area on the outskirts of the housing development.

A large contingent of police officers from the St Joseph CID, the Tunapuna CID, the Piarco CID, the North Central Division Task Force West, the North Central Division Task Force East, along with personnel from the St Joseph and Tunapuna Warrants Staff, the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch, the Northern Division Emergency Response, and the Special Operations Unit conducted an extensive search of the SWWTU housing scheme at Bamboo #2 and environs, which resulted in the capture and arrest of three suspects.

Officers also recovered two bags which allegedly contained the valuables taken from the resident, along with a stash of other items also believed to be stolen, in the Toyota Axio.
