FC Master Ballers improved their chances of avoiding the four-team automatic relegation zone with a close 2-1 victory over Police when they met in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) First Division on Tuesday, climbing to 17 points from 17 outings and into the eighth position on the 14-team standings.
Despite being reduced to 10 men when Zawandi Weathered was send off in the 40th, Master Ballers managed to hold off the lawmen and found their go-ahead strike in minute 70 via a Greg Williams conversion, his first of two in the match.
Police were back on level terms just four minutes later when Damien Henry struck in the 74th minute but Williams scored his second in the 77th to secure all three points for Master Ballers. The lawmen remain on 11 points and well in the automatic relegation zone.
Bolans also did themselves some good with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Lion Hill at the Johnson’s Sports Complex.
Dennison Stevens put Bolans ahead on minute 25 before Marcus Marquis put Lion Hill on level terms five minutes later. Goals from Alex Joseph in minute 58 and Damarius Stevens in minute 65, propelled Bolans to a 3-1 lead. A Shemarah Andrew 77th minute strike gave Lion Hill some hope but they were unable to find a third strike to level the scores and take at least a point from the contest.
Bolans move to 19 points and out of the relegation zone while Lion Hill remain on 11 points and second from bottom on the standings.
A top of the table clash between the already promoted Jennings United and playoff hopefuls, Freeman’s Village Scorpions, ended in a tame scoreless draw at the FA’s Technical Center.
The point lifts Scorpions to 36 points and third on the standings while Jennings move to 43 points and second after completing their quota of 18 matches.
