An Ottos man has been sentenced to spend five months at His Majesty’s Prison for assaulting his ex-girlfriend and entering her home unlawfully.
Earlier this week, Hopeton Roach pleaded guilty to assaulting the woman, unlawfully entering her property, and possessing a weapon with intent to commit a crime.
The victim is Roach’s former partner, to whom he still gave rides to and from work despite their relationship ending last year due to reported abuse.
It is said that on March 22, 2025, Roach arrived at the victim’s residence uninvited, forcibly entered her home, and confronted her aggressively.
The situation escalated when Roach physically assaulted the woman, grabbing her by her hair and forcing her to the ground.
The court heard that Roach then obtained a knife from the kitchen and made threatening statements toward the victim.
The confrontation was interrupted when the victim’s brother entered the home, at which point Roach set the weapon aside.
After eventually leaving the premises, Roach reportedly attempted to re-enter through various windows without success.
The victim subsequently contacted law enforcement to report the incident.
On Monday, Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel handed down a sentence of five months for assault, one month for weapon possession, and one month for unlawful entry.
The sentences will run concurrently which means he will only spend five months behind bars.
