Attacking Saints Condemned to Playoffs as Top Premier Division Performers Awarded

Attacking Saints, having narrowly avoided automatic relegation from the top flight, will have a further fight to stay in the Antigua and Barbuda Football Association (ABFA) Premier Division via the Premier/First Division playoffs set to start mid April.

The All Saints men finished their quota of 19 matches on 19 points and 10th on the 14-team standings following a 2-1 triumph over Five Islands on Saturday. The defeat doomed Five Islands as they finished in the four-team relegation zone.

Attacking Saints must however wait for the conclusion of the First Division to know which two teams they will meet in the playoffs. Four teams in Freeman’s Village Scorpions, SAP FC, Swetes FC and Empire FC are all in with chances of claiming the two playoff spots. Jennings United, on 42 points with two matches left in the First Division, have already secured promotion to the top flight with Ottos Rangers, on 41 points, set to take the other promotion spot.

On Sunday, Green City beat the relegated Willikies FC 2-1 to take their tally of points to 23 points and safely out of the relegation zone, securing another season in the top flight.

Jermarion Edwards put Green City ahead on minute 36 before Daniel Nanton drew Willikies level in the 40th. Malik Charles found the winner for Green City when he struck in the 58th minute.

Repeat champions, All Saints United wrapped up their 2024/25 campaign with a 3-1 victory over Garden Stars to finish at the top of the standings.
