Antigua and Barbuda to host Commonwealth Summit in 2026

Antigua and Barbuda will host the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGOM) in 2026, welcoming up to 7,000 delegates including heads of state from across the Commonwealth, Cabinet announced Wednesday.

A delegation of 10 members from the Commonwealth Office met with Cabinet to discuss planning for the high-profile international event. The visiting team included representatives from the Metropolitan Police, Palace Security, and experts in cybersecurity and other relevant fields.

“Since the visiting team has had experience with previous Commonwealth Heads Meetings, they provided assurances to the Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda that every aspect of the meeting will be planned,” according to the Cabinet statement.

The summit will feature several specialized forums, including Business, Women’s, Youth and People’s Forums, each expected to attract 300–400 participants from Commonwealth nations.

Special security preparations for King Charles and his Queen will begin this month, with Buckingham Palace dispatching police officers for a two-week preliminary assessment. The royal couple is scheduled to attend various events during the CHOGOM.

Minister Maria Browne will lead a Spouses’ Programme that includes a trip to Barbuda, which the King may also visit. Other planned activities include a concert featuring global artists and a T-10 cricket match.

The specific date and theme for CHOGOM 2026 have not yet been announced.
