The University of the West Indies Five Islands Campus is set to host its first annual 5K Run/Walk on Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 6:30 a.m.
The event, which is being held in partnership with theĀ Five Islands Primary School, aims to promote health and wellness while raising funds for student scholarships and school programs in the Five Islands area.
Principal of The UWI Five Islands Campus, Professor C. Justin Robinson, highlighted the eventās dual mission: āThis 5K isnāt just about physical activityāitās about uniting the community to support education and healthier lifestyles.ā
The initiative builds on the campusās existing health campaigns, such as āNo Sugar Novemberā and a New Yearās step challenge, which encouraged daily goals of 5,000 to 15,000 steps.
Principal of Five Islands Primary School,Ā Mr Alden James underscored the partnershipās long-term vision. āThis event strengthens our bond with The UWI Five Islands Campus, which adopted our school during its 60th anniversary celebrations.
We envision a future where our students not only participate in these initiatives but also aspire to attend UWI. Together, weāre building a healthier, more connected community.ā
The 5K route will begin and end at the UWI Five Islands Campus, guiding participants along the scenic routeĀ with logistical support from the Antigua and Barbuda Defence Force and the Antigua and Barbuda Cadet Force.
Registration feesā$20 for primary/secondary students, $30 for tertiary students, and $40 for adults (with group discounts available)āwill directly fund scholarships at The UWI FIC and initiatives at Five Islands Primary School, including the uniforms programme and educational supplies.
Participants in the 5K Run/Walk will receive commemorative T-shirts and giveaways.
The event is sponsored by the Citizenship by Investment Unit, Townhouse Megastore, Stonewall Reloaded, Green Apple CafƩ, The Ahkimo Group, and The UWI Five Islands Campus.
