Sir McChesney George High School (SMGHS) edged out Princess Margaret School (PMS) by a very slim margin when the two met on Monday at the JSC Sports Complex in the Senior Boys Division of the Cool and Smooth/Joma/Ministry of Sports Competition. There were also matches in the Junior and Mini Boys divisions.
In the nail-biting contest, SMGHS recorded a 46-44 victory over PMS. Eli Harris led from the front with 17 points although PMS’ Tyrese Whyte led all scorers with 18 points in a losing effort.

However, PMS would not leave the court empty-handed as they narrowly defeated Antigua Grammar School 18-14 in Mini Boys basketball. Elijah Charles top-scored for PMS with 9 points whereas Giovanni Hodge matched Charles’ output with 9 points of his own, but lacked the supporting offense needed to overcome Princess Margaret’s defensive effort. The victory propels PMS to the finals of the division.
Like PMS, the AGS rebounded to defeat St Joseph’s Academy (SJA) by a score of 45-29 in Junior Boys Basketball. Raheem Sawyer led the way for AGS with an impressive 19-point performance, controlling the game’s tempo and finding scoring opportunities throughout. SJA was paced by Jayden Lewis, who contributed 13 points in a valiant effort despite the defeat. It means that the AGS side has progressed to the finals to be played on April 6.
