Parliament Dissolved: Trinidad and Tobago to Hold General Elections on April 28

Port of Spain, March 18, 2025 – Prime Minister the Hon. Stuart R. Young, SC, has advised Her Excellency Christine Kangaloo, O.R.T.T., President of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago, to dissolve Parliament effective midnight on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. This move paves the way for the nation’s highly anticipated General Elections.

In accordance with Section 68 of the Constitution, the dissolution of Parliament triggers the electoral process. The Prime Minister has also advised the President to issue Writs of Election under Section 33 of the Representation of the People Act, Chap. 2:01.

As per the official timeline, Nomination Day has been set for Friday, April 4, 2025, while Polling Day will take place on Monday, April 28, 2025. Citizens will head to the polls to elect a new government as the nation prepares for a fresh mandate.

With the announcement, political parties are expected to ramp up their campaigns in the coming weeks, outlining their visions for the country’s future. The election is set to be a pivotal moment in Trinidad and Tobago’s democratic process, with key issues such as the economy, national security, and social development likely to dominate the debate.
