Orford’s double-double propels Warriors while Dawkins’ game-winning performance leads Da Project past Slam

In a game which saw two players, one on either team, both record 33-points double-double, Warriors edged Spanish Heat 89-84 to claim a five-point triumph in Division 1 of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association (ABBA) league at the JSC basketball complex on Sunday.

Kebo Orford was on fire for Warriors, sinking 33 points on 14 of 26 shooting including three of eight from three-point range. He also picked up 15 rebounds and dished two assists. Orford had help from Lincoln Weekes who sank 20 points, grabbed five rebounds and dished seven assists. Michael Barton contributed with 12 points and a staggering 24 rebounds off the bench as Warriors narrowly outscored Spanish Heat in three of the four quarters contested.

They edged Spanish Heat 28-26 in the opening quarter before Heat claimed the second quarter 20-17. Warriors then dominated the third and fourth quarters 18-16 and 26-22.

Steven Matthew, in a losing effort, matched Orford’s energy with 33 points of his own for Spanish Heat while also picking up 11 rebounds. Bernard Andrew dropped 17 points and grabbed 13 rebounds also in a losing effort.

In the other D1 game contested Sunday, Da Project enjoyed a slim 94-90 triumph over All Saints Slam in a high-scoring affair.

Terry Dawkins led the charge for Da Project with a game-high of 32 points while picking up nine rebounds and five assists. He had help from veteran Bryan Matthew with 20 points on nine of 11 shooting, sinking a perfect three for three from two-point range. Matthew also hit four of eight from beyond the arc.

There were 16 and 14 points each from T-Shawn Lewis and Donte Triminghamrespectively while Lewis also grabbed 16 rebounds. Sean Nicholas came up big on the defensive end with 16 rebounds.

In a losing effort, Humroy Wright top scored for Slam with 25 points. Lornie Josephcontributed with 16 points and 10 rebounds with Shawn Thomas adding 14 points and 23 rebounds.
