This is according to the Ministry of Education, Sport and Creative Industries, which issued a statement moments ago indicating the event will now take place on March 22 at the same venue. The body said a decision was taken to postpone the event following consultation with stakeholders as the country mours with the family of nine-year-old Chantel Crump who was found murdered today. Crump was abducted on Wednesday this week.
Minister Hon. Daryll S. Matthew, Minister of Education, Sport and Creative Industries and a father, expressed his deep sorrow: “This is a dark day in Antigua and Barbuda. No child should ever endure such an unspeakable act of savagery, having their light of innocence stolen from them. I said it yesterday and will continue to say: Let us all be our brotherโs keeper, look out for one another, and ensure our children feel safe in their communities. Today is not business as usual. Today, we have been thrust into a National Day of Prayer and Mourning, coming together with families and communities to support and hold each other.”
The Ministry sent its condolences to thhe family.
