On Tuesday night, Cuties Ovals Ojays overcame a slow start to defeat Ramco Pharmacy Fearless Crew 85-64 in the Second Division of the Antigua and Barbuda Basketball Association at the JSC Sports Complex.
The impressive Tajahron Davis led all scorers with a game-high and season best 35 points on efficient 15-for-28 shooting, including a perfect 2-for-2 from beyond the arc. The Ojays established control early, racing to a commanding 23-16 first-quarter lead behind Davis and Tequan Brodie, who finished with 18 points including three triples. Despite the Fearless Crew narrowing the gap to 39-33 by halftime, Ojays maintained their composure.
Raheem Sawyer added 15 points for Ojays, while Shaheim Omarde contributed a double-double with 10 points and 14 rebounds.
For Fearless Crew, Takeem Martin led the way with 24 points, 18 rebounds, and 3 assists in a valiant effort. Joel Christian added 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Romel Diggscontributed 11 points and 12 rebounds.
The first match of the evening saw Navigators secure a comfortable 61-46 victory over Michael Joseph Phoenix as Ricky Willock top-scored for Navigators with 18 points, with De-Lornge Jules adding 14 points.
After a tight first half that ended in a 31-31 deadlock, the Navigators took control in the third quarter, outscoring Phoenix 18-8 to build a double-digit lead heading into the final period. Their defensive intensity held Phoenix to just 8 points in the pivotal third quarter.
For Phoenix, Daysher Samuel led all scorers with 19 points and added 9 rebounds and 5 steals in a strong all-around effort. Shalom Bloodman contributed 13 points including three triples, but the team struggled collectively, shooting just 29.2 percent from the field compared to the Navigators’ 37.5 percent. Action in the First Division will resume on Thursday with Total Imports Potter Steelers taking on Lava Smoke Shop Warriors in the first match and in the second match will see DA Project up against Spanish Heat.
