Cedar Grove man remanded after pleading guilty to drug charge, not guilty to ammunition charge

A 36-year-old Cedar Grove resident has been remanded to custody until May 21 following his court appearance yesterday before Magistrate Ngaio Emanuel.

Javin Maynard, represented by attorney Lawrence Daniel, entered a guilty plea to a charge of cannabis possession but denied the more serious charge of unlawful possession of ammunition.

The charges stem from a police operation on February 28, when officers executed a search warrant at Maynard’s residence.

During the search, authorities allegedly discovered five .25 rounds of ammunition and 37.5 grams of cannabis in his possession.

Following the discovery, Maynard was taken into custody and charged with unlawful possession of both the ammunition and cannabis.

Despite pleading guilty to the drug offence, Maynard’s not guilty plea to the ammunition charge has resulted in his remand until the May court date at which time he will stand trial.
