Renowned Hotelier Sir Robert Barrett Passes Away
Sir Robert Barrett, a major figure in Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry, passed away today, surrounded by family and friends.
As the owner of several prominent resorts, including The Verandah, Pineapple Beach Club, Hammock Cove, and St. James’s Club Sir Robert played a pivotal role in the nation’s hospitality sector. His investments, exceeding US$500 million, have fueled economic growth and provided employment for thousands over the past four decades.
In 2023, he was knighted on Independence Day in recognition of his significant contributions to the tourism industry.
Leading tributes, Prime Minister Gaston Browne expressed condolences to the Barrett family, stating:
