The polls for the Barbuda Council Elections will be closed shortly at 6 PM tonight. The Holy Trinity Primary School was the location of all 5 polling stations and were open at 7 AM this morning,
The Barbuda Council was established in 1976 via the Barbuda Local Government Act Cap 44. The Council is an 11 member body that manages the internal affairs of Barbuda and consists of 9 directly elected members and 2 ex officio members (Barbuda’s Parliament representatives) who serve 4 year terms. Elections are held every two years in March with four and five seats becoming vacant at alternative dates.
The duly nominated 5 candidates for the Antigua and Barbuda Labour Party (ABLP) vying for a seat on the Barbuda Council are: Arthur Nibbs, Bernard Christian, Orlando Morris, Mackiesha Desuza and Bonneitha John.
The duly nominated 5 candidates for the Barbuda People’s Movement (BPM) vying for a seat on the Barbuda Council are: Wayde Burton, Nico Antonio, Melanie Beazer, Nadia George and Jacklyn Frank.
The duly nominated 2 independent candidates vying for a seat on the Barbuda Council are: Hesketh Daniel and Jermaine Desouza.
Registered voters should not vote for more than 5 candidates in the Barbuda Council Elections.
