The Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union (ABWU) commends the government and its regional counterparts for their unwavering defense of the Cuban Medical Brigade and their continued support of Cuba’s significant contributions to regional healthcare.

Despite challenges, including scrutiny from the United States regarding the Cuban medical program, Caricom leaders have consistently highlighted the immense value of this initiative, which continues to benefit their countries.
General Secretary of the ABWU, Senator David Massiah, said the organisation stands firm in recognizing the indispensable role that Cuban healthcare professionals have played in improving health outcomes in Antigua and Barbuda and across the region.
The ABWU urges the government to not only communicate its future plans concerning the Cuban medical team but also to engage the public in understanding the vital services that these healthcare professionals provide.
“The people of Antigua and Barbuda owe Cuba a debt of gratitude for its past and ongoing support, including the medical care of our citizens and the education and training of numerous local healthcare professionals”.
In light of this, the Antigua and Barbuda Workers’ Union is calling on the government to remain steadfast in solidarity with Cuba—and the Cuban people.
