For the first time since her arrest, alleged child killer Angela Mejia was caught on camera as she made a brief court appearance this morning.
The accused, charged with the murder of 9-year-old Chantel Crump, was heavily guarded and wore a bulletproof vest as she was remanded for another week.
This procedure follows Section 239 of the Magistrate’s Code of Procedure Act, which states that a prisoner should not be remanded for more than eight clear days at a time.
But prisoners won’t have to be physically brought to court much longer.
Virtual remands are set to begin soon following an amendment to the law that was gazetted last Monday.
