Windward Islands Women secured a convincing victory over Leeward Islands Women in their opening fixture of the Regional Women’s Super 50, chasing down the target with plenty of overs to spare, playing at St. Pauls Complex in St. Kitts.
Batting first, Leeward Islands Women were dismissed for 93 runs in 28 overs. Reniece Boyce (24) and Melicia Clarke (23) were the top scorers, but lacked substantial support from their teammates as they lost their final eight wickets for 25 runs. West Indies leg spinner Afy Fletcher delivered an outstanding bowling performance for Windward Islands, claiming five wickets, while Amiah Gilbert contributed with two.
In response, Windward Islands comfortably reached their target, finishing at 94 for two in just 13.5 overs at an impressive run rate of 6.79. Jannillea Glasgow anchored the innings with an unbeaten 55, showcasing her low tolerance for poor bowling with 11 boundaries. Captain Zaida James provided valuable support with 21 runs.
The victory highlights Windward Islands’ dominant performance in all departments, particularly their batting efficiency. Leeward Islands will be disappointed with their batting collapse but can take encouragement from Fletcher’s exceptional bowling display despite the defeat. They will face the Trinidad and Tobago Divas at Conaree Park on Wednesday with Guyana at the Warner Park on Friday.
