LETTER: Special request: The nation should witness a debate the dynamic youth parliamentarian’s vs the govt parliamentarians

As a regular listener of the Talking Point show, hosted by the esteem Senator Colin Browne,  I went onto yesterday’s Point FM Facebook page, to tune into his informative talk show.

Unfortunately, Senator Colin was not air.

Immediately, I felt disappointed, however, because of my addiction to the program, I stayed on the FB page & realized that the Youth Parliament was showing.

Surprisingly, the cliché  ” within every dissappointment, there is a blessing ” took the best of me, because I had no regrets watching the Youth Parliament. It was a blessing in disguise.

I was extremely impressed with each speaker’s presentation. They all articulated with confidence, eloquency, clarity & fluency.

It was pellucid that the subject  ” Urgent reform of mental health treatment ” was well researched & delivered. Both teams, The opposition & propositon did a great job.

Unlike what was seen in the Youth Parliament, the nation is yet to hear or see a dynamic debate in the Lower House of parliament.

The opposition paliamentarians seems to be weak and are yet to rise to the occassion.

Be that as it is, it would be lovely see the youngsters have an unofficial debate against the senior ABLP parliamentarians in parliament. The topic  ” Why should marijuana be decriminalized…? The Govt can propose and the youths oppose.

I am sure the debate will boosts the youngsters’ confidence & self esteem.

I will definitely bet on the youngsters. From my vantage point,  the youths have showed great potential.

They have great debating skills & it is evident that they have displayed a considerable degree of national pride. Keep it up guys, continue to do the great works!
