Tourism Minister Charles Fernandez has confirmed that the government is in discussions with potential investors for the redevelopment of Jolly Beach Hotel, with at least one investor set to visit Antigua in the coming weeks to explore opportunities.
Speaking on Pointe FM, Fernandez said that while no agreements have been finalized, there has been significant interest in reviving the beachfront property, which was once a key player in Antigua’s all-inclusive resort market.
“We should have someone coming to the island as early as week after next week to look at investing in Jolly Beach Hotel,” Fernandez stated.
Jolly Beach Hotel, which was among the largest hotels in Antigua, has faced financial difficulties and closure, leaving a gap in the island’s tourism infrastructure.
The government has been working to secure investment to restore operations, recognizing the strategic importance of the property.
Fernandez emphasized that reviving Jolly Beach Hotel is crucial for expanding Antigua’s room stock and meeting the rising demand for accommodations, as the country continues to experience record-breaking tourism arrivals.
Antigua and Barbuda’s tourism industry is seeing strong growth, with increased stay-over and cruise arrivals.
The government has prioritized hotel expansion and investment opportunities, working to bring new properties online while revitalizing existing ones.
Fernandez noted that while discussions are still in the preliminary stages, the interest from investors is encouraging, and the government remains committed to seeing the hotel return to full operation.
